We Did It...Indiegogo Campaign Launched!

Last week DWtO launched our first ever Indiegogo fundraising campaign to raise money for our Dancing Backwards project that you've been reading about over the last few months. We are very excited and enthusiastic!

Indiegogo is an online crowdfunding platform where every dollar counts. This model is based on the idea that a large community of donors can help fund a project little by little (or a lot if you have a lot to give).

Indiegogo gives us the opportunity to build community in support of our passion and our project. We are trying to raise $45,000 to cover the costs of the Dancing Backwards pilot project. Every dollar counts towards expanding this amazing learning experience and making it accessible to students all across BC and eventually Canada..

So this is how it works. Go to this link. Watch our 3-minute video to see us in action and hear why we need your help. Donate if and whatever you can. And then Share the link by sending it out into the world so that we can reach as many potential donors as possible in the next 34 days.

Don't live in Canada?
Dancing Backwards is a precedent project that hopes to inspire similar curricula across the world. This is the beginning and your contributions and sharing the campaign are essential in helping us empower young women everywhere.

We'll be posting regular updates as the campaign goes on, with special clips of the pilot school students talking about the project and their experiences. So be sure to check back in on Facebook and Twitter!

Elizabeth May at School

Dancing Backwards brought MP Elizabeth May to visit with students in Victoria schools this month. Pictured here with teachers Alex, Jess, Jenn grade 8 student, Riley, Gordon Head Middle School.

She created a non-partisan dialogue about women in politics and her own experiences and decisions, answered the well thought-out and enthusiastic questions from students and advised everyone to write letters to the editor of their local newspapers.

Elizabeth says the "Letters to the Editor" section has the highest readership in any newspaper and is a great place to start becoming politically active and involved.

Elizabeth was honoured to be treated to a gourmet lunch created especially for her by the Culinary Program students at Spectrum Community School. Pictured here with Spectrum teacher Jenn O'Ryan Ractliffe and intern Johanna Lee.

Big thanks to Elizabeth and all the Dancing Backwards participating teachers and principals!

New Blog Post

Check out this month's blog from volunteer intern Johanna Lee. She writes about her involvement in the Dancing Backwards pilot and the importance of experiential education.

What we do

Dancing with the Octopus is a passionate, entertaining, non-partisan, 8-tentacled media project inviting the
conversation about gender equality in politics, youth voter apathy and leadership.
