Kaitlin Fontana - Lady Politician
...is a National Magazine award-winning writer living in Vancouver, BC. Her work has appeared in Event, Room, SPIN, Rolling Stone, Sound, Exclaim!, the Walrus and Maisonneuve, among many other publications.
In addition, she's an improviser and sketch comedian who's performed across North America. Recently, she co-wrote and starred in a pilot for CBC online in which she immersed herself in Canada's nudist community. This essentially means that her grandmother has seen her naked on the internet.
Kaitlin holds a BFA in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia, where she received the Douglas Bankson Scholarship in Creative Writing. In 2005, she won the Event Creative Non-Fiction contest and a National Magazine Award for her piece "Sleeping with the Dead."
In 2010, Kaitlin was awarded the Emerging Artist prize in the category of Literary Arts at the Mayor's Arts Awards. She was chosen by nominee Evelyn Lau. She currently sits on the Editorial Board for PRISM International.
Kaitlin was born and raised in Fernie, BC. When she is not writing or improvising, she enjoys teaching teenagers how to write and improvise.
